Scotland's Two Referendums
by contact@newsnetscotland.com (Online Editor)
11 Aug 2014 at 2:59pm

  By Peter Geoghegan

Last Tuesday night, I watched, along with most of Scotland, two besuited, middle-aged men argue with each other on national television for the best part of two hours. In the main it was pretty unedifying stuff.

Alastair Darling refused to accept that Scotland could function as an independent country; Alex Salmond made the frankly bizarre decision to waste valuable minutes asking facile questions about 'Project Fear' scare stories. The crowd booed and cheered on cue. All in all there was little ? if anything ? to differentiate this from the 'Punch and Judy' politics that nationalists have, rightly, chastised Westminster for.

Why Did The BBC Ignore The Evidence On Improvements In The Sector asks the Professor of Childhood Inclusion at the University of Edinburgh

By John M. Davis

This article is a response to a BBC report on early years provision on the 8th of August.

In contrast to the BBC report the article illustrates the great improvements that have been a/brhieved in the sector and outlines the positive, progressive and open approach to change taken by Childhood Practitioners who lead early years and out of school provision.

No Deal on currency union ... No deal on debt

Listen to Alex Salmond speaking to business leaders at the Vision for Scotland Conference in Edinburgh on 6th August.  It is vital there is no doubt what the position of the Scottish Government is going into the negotiations following a Yes vote.

The First Minister explains the pros and cons of the other options considered by the Fiscal Commission.

The Bigger The Lie - Media Bias in the Scottish Independence Referendum
by contact@newsnetscotland.com (Online Editor)
9 Aug 2014 at 12:13pm

In January this year a study by a Scottish academic caused a sensation when it revealed anti-independence bias existed in early evening news programmes broadcast in Scotland.

The study by Professor John Robertson resulted in BBC Scotland management appearing in front of a Holyrood Committee to explain the findings.

Beyond the hype of the TV debate is the real Yes campaign
by contact@newsnetscotland.com (Online Editor)
6 Aug 2014 at 4:59pm

  By Lesley Riddoch

STV's "Scotland Decides" TV debate was a big disappointment for Yes supporters ? there's no denying it.  Alex Salmond was off form and curiously slow on his feet.  By contrast the normally soporific Alistair Darling acted like a man possessed. Each man performed against type ? and against hype.

SNP supporters expected their leader to simply switch on the vice-like control of proceedings he demonstrates every week in Holyrood ? even though this was a debate between equals not a First Minister's showcase.

Why Scotland must vote Yes - the case for women

?Oh, I don?t know what to think?? ? ?What if?? ? ?We?ll never manage it?? Sound familiar? It does to me. In recent months I?ve been the length and breadth of my local area, South Ayrshire, talking to voters on street stalls, doorsteps and in village halls.

The referendum is not about the politicians, it's about us

All recent polls show the undecided will be the decisive factor in the outcome of the Scotland referendum - and you have to sympathise with the plight of those still sitting on the fence.

The poor folks have been bombarded from both sides with figures, claims, counter-claims and a barrage of words and hot air on the subject - leaving them more confused than ever.

Margo Mobile Hits the Road

Govan has been good to Jim Sillars, and his late wife, Margo MacDonald. Back in 1973, Margo sensationally won a by-election on the banks of the Clyde for the SNP, catapulting the 30-year-old with the flowing blonde locks into the glare of the UK media spotlight. Fifteen years later, Jim repeated the trick.

Glasgow 2014 ? Team BBC, Team Scotland and Team GB
by contact@newsnetscotland.com (Online Editor)
3 Aug 2014 at 5:07pm

By G.A.Ponsonby

Well Glasgow 2014 is over and what a show it was.  The closing ceremony was the icing on the cake with Burns? Aye Fond Kiss beautifully sung as the Commonwealth flag was lowered.

There were highs and lows, moments of great drama mixed and moments of humour.  Dougie McLean brought it all to an end with a wonderful rendition of Caledonia ? and followed it up with a tearful Auld Lang Syne, with help from Lulu and Kylie.
